Applying Text Box Locks to Protect Your Design

Text boxes are an important aspect to your content. Locking text boxes using Visme’s various options allows you to control specific aspects of them within your branded templates – enabling you to restrict changes to the location, content, or format of text elements, helping maintain brand consistency and stylization across your projects.

Note: This feature is designed to provide teams with precise control over branded templates and is only available to Admins and Designers on Enterprise plans.

Unlocking Permissions by Role

The ability to lock and unlock text boxes depends on the user’s permission and/or custom role:

– User’s with Admin permission: Can apply and unlock any of the text box lock settings.

– Users with Member permissions: Cannot unlock text boxes once the locks are applied.

However, if you can apply a custom role to users with member permission in order to allow them to unlock and edit specific settings based on what is necessary for their role and content creation needs:

– Designers: Can unlock all settings (location, content, and format)

– Marketing Managers: Can unlock content and location

– Sales Managers and Copywriters: Can unlock content only

– Other users: Cannot unlock locked text boxes

For Admins: How to Lock or Unlock Text Boxes

Right-click on the text box you want to lock or unlock.

Select the Lock/Unlock option from the dropdown menu.

From the options that appear, use the switches to choose which aspect you want to lock or unlock:

– Lock All: Locks location, content, and format

– Lock Location: Prevents moving the text box

– Lock Content: Prevents editing the text

– Lock Format: Prevents changes to font, size, color, or styling

Once locked, the text box will be protected according to your selections, ensuring consistent branding and design across your project.

Tip: Text Box Locks is ideal for teams working with branded templates where brand consistency is key, allowing you to control how content is modified while still allowing autonomy and collaboration on other aspects of the project.

For Members: How Text Locks Will Be Displayed

When a member is working on a text box that has locks applied, there will be small icons displayed on the top left corner of the box. These are indicators that show the user the locks that are applied, and what they are unable to change on the text box. There is also a floating bar that appears towards the top of their screen that informs them what they are able to edit on that text box they have selected.

For Members: How to Manage Text Locks or Get Help

If a member’s custom role includes permission to unlock and modify text boxes (as reviewed above), they can open the menu on the right side of the floating top bar to unlock the settings permitted for their role and adjust the text box as needed.

Members without a custom role won’t be able to unlock text box settings to make changes. If they need additional help or flexibility, we recommend using Visme’s Commenting feature to tag teammates with the appropriate permissions who can join the project and assist with the necessary text box updates.
