Understanding Custom Roles in Visme

Custom Roles, available in Visme’s Enterprise Plan, enable teams to organize users into groups and define specific access levels. When applied to Members, these roles can unlock additional platform capabilities and permissions. Custom Roles can help achieve tailored permissions for users based on their team responsibilities and workflow needs.

Note: If you need a full breakdown regarding the standard permissions of Owner, Admins, and Members within Workspaces, you can refer to our Permissions in your Workspace support article

What Are Custom Roles?

Custom Roles let you create specific groups of users within your workspace and assign them permissions that match their responsibilities. This gives teams finer control over how users interact with shared content. With Custom Roles, you can control access to projects, folders, templates, the Brand Kit, editing capabilities, and more.

These are the default Custom Roles provided in Visme’s Enterprise Plan:

– Sales User

– Sales Manager

– Marketing User

– Marketing Manager

– Designer

– Copywriter

Note: Each role is tailored to the user’s function, ensuring they can work efficiently while maintaining workspace governance and content standards. In addition to the predefined roles, admins can also create their own custom roles within the Manage Roles section under Workspace Members to better match unique team structures or responsibilities.

Granting Project and Folder Access with Custom Roles

An advantage of Custom Roles is that they allow Workspace Admins to grant project and folder access more efficiently.

For example, if you’re adding a new user to your workspace and specific roles already have defined access to certain projects or folders, you can simply assign the appropriate Custom Role to that user. They’ll automatically receive access to everything associated with that role—no need to manually grant access one project or folder at a time.

This helps reduce, or even eliminate, the administrative work involved in managing access for new users.
